Learn to “Paint With Light” during a nature photography field workshop with nature photographers, Bill and Linda. These workshops are not just photography tours. They are field workshops, with hands-on instruction in the field, demonstrations, group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and plenty of one-on-one assistance as you meet, share, and learn from fellow nature photographers. And if you are lucky, home cooked meals by the Lanes at some of the workshops. Bill and Linda invite you to explore their site, to see how you can become a better nature photographer.

THANK YOU FOR ENRICHING OUR LIVES!

A Note to all our friends

As each season passes, we reminisce about all the unforgettable times and adventures we’ve shared with our photography friends during our many workshops and seminars over the many years. We have truly missed everything about them, well most everything. Few Exceptions: Maybe not the boat captain not showing up on schedule. That wasn’t so much fun. Or having our conference room taken over by the garden club because they forgot they had a bridal luncheon planned that afternoon in the recreation hall, or the not so pleasant grumpy Manager at the Inn, or better yet the Inn manager who was always sleeping off a hangover, so everyone was afraid to bother her when we needed help. Or how about arriving at a location only to find our group reservations had not made the transfer onto the new computer system in spite of our constant follow up. Some will remember the camera rolling into a crevasse and the wonderful volunteer fire department fellow who fetched it out. Remember going out in the wee hours of the morning when the fog was so thick, we could hardly find our cars and looking at us and thinking we were nuts only to find a jaw dropping, breathtaking scenes right in front of you as the fog lifted. And being rained on for 4 days straight was no fun but we always had back up plans, plenty of class work, programs and homemade oatmeal cookies. And we will never forget tripods toppling off rocks and piers into water, especially the one that went in headfirst, camera and all while we stood, helpless, watching it sink, little by little, inch by painful inch into the abyss. At least we managed to save the tripod, L bracket and polarizer.

Each season since the invasion of Covid, we discuss whether our workshops will ever return to the way they were. We wonder if maybe we should conduct at least one workshop a year just to keep in touch with those of you with whom we have shared so much camaraderie. At each workshop we’d watch as friendships grew amongst the participants along with their knowledge of becoming a better more seasoned photographer. Participants shared information and equipment, helped one another, and became longtime friends. Then we wonder which one of the many wonderful workshop locations we would select should we do only one: Great Smokey Mountain, West Virginia, Chincoteague, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tangier…..When posed with the question, which was our favorite, it presented a real quandary. Each was unique. Eventually we realized it wasn’t so much the location that made the workshop a success, although that was a biggie; it was the participants. They could make or break a workshop. Had Bill and I not had such wonderful people in attendance, well, we just would not have continued teaching. We love teaching, sharing and good people. We never conducted workshops because we had to but because we wanted to. It’s the people who make the difference.

And so, at this time, we want to make sure that regardless as to whether or not we offer any more workshops, that those of you who have attended our workshops know how much we truly appreciate who you are and the wonderful times you gave us. We learned so much from you. You made us happy. You helped us grow. You enriched our lives. Our workshops grew and became better because of you. You made it easy for us. Thank you for that! Those years were rewarding, exciting and fulfilling.

So here we are not sure what the future holds. We will continue to post a few adventures on our Facebook page. And should we decide to offer a workshop, we will post that as well. We will also post it at the top of our website.

We hope this finds all of you in good health. Please stay safe, healthy, happy and for heaven’s sake keep on shooting.

With the Fondest of Memories,

Bill and Linda Lane
