HPWI

PRINTS AND ARTIST BOOKS
Early Years

In the early 80s the Hand Print Workshop was a “developing” studio— a resource for local artists to make prints and a classroom for students.

Moscow

The Moscow Studio was founded in 1990 on the eve of the breakup of the old Soviet Union. It was a model for the future of contemporary art by creating opportunities and support in uncertain times.

Alexandria

Screen printmaking as a medium to express individuality and social justice remains a studio focus. By expanding the artists connected to the workshop and applying some of the techniques that were untried in Moscow, new and exciting work has emerged.

Community

The cornerstone of community involvement at HPWI centers around the opportunities provided through the studio’s educational and outreach programs.
