Plein Air Painting & Sketching in SCOTLAND with ALAN FLATTMANN
September 10-20, 2017
If you are the sort of artist who loves trekking around the countryside and painting rugged landscapes, picturesque harbors and villages, then Scotland is the ideal place for you. Join Alan for this wonderful opportunity to paint and sketch for ten days in Scotland’s scenic Fife coastal area and the spectacular highlands of Perthshire.
Flattmann’s group of artists will stay at The Old Manor Hotel on the east coast ( www.theoldmanorhotel.co.uk.) for the first five days. Set within the beautiful Fife coastal area known as the East Neuk, the hotel enjoys a commanding hilltop position with panoramic views over Lundin Golf Course and across the Firth of Forth (the estuary on the River Forth where it flows into the North Sea). For the second five days, the group will stay at the Four Seasons Hotel (www.thefourseasonshotel.co.uk.) in Perthshire on the banks of Lock Earn. The natural beauty of this location looking south-west down Lock Earn is one of the most enviable settings in Scotland.
September is an ideal month to visit Scotland. The summer crowds begin to dissipate as the leaves begin to change colors and the weather is mild and pleasant with average daily temperatures between 55 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Although the risk of rain is moderate, both hotels will offer a “studio” room for the group’s exclusive use in case of bad weather and for general meetings.
Malcolm Evans of Shinafoot Studios Scotland will professionally coordinate and manage the tour as Alan concentrates on teaching. Non-artists are welcome to come along on this exciting tour.
Alan Flattmann is a PSA Master Pastelist, renowned painter, teacher and author. He was inducted into the Pastel Society of America Hall of Fame and is a recipient of the American Artist Art Masters Award for Pastel Teacher, as well as numerous other awards and honors. He has taught art workshops since 1968 and has led many painting tours to Europe.

Alan will demonstrate pastel, watercolor and drawing techniques with daily critiques and individual help in any medium. Painting sessions are usually mornings and afternoons with plenty of time for lunches and exploring. Non-painters are welcome and there will be much for them to do and see while the artists paint.
